Product Description

Japanese reissue. The movie soundtrack that Norman Whitfield, who worked on The Temptations, made his treasured debut in a big way. The title song that has become a classic disco, "I'm Going Down" covered by Mary J. Blige, and the Temptations-style slow "I Wanna Get Next to You" are full of highlights! Universal. 2022.

I love Norman Whitfield's CAR WASH soundtrack featuring Rose Royce and one track by the Pointer Sisters. If you haven't seen the movie or listened to this soundtrack before, the title track that was a hit and what most people will remember about the music from the movie is just a taste of what's really on here. There's really no bad track on here even the instrumentals like "Sunrise" (which I'm sure Missy Elliot sampled for "Get Ur Freak On") have searing funk beats that belie that farce that was the movie. Although the film was a comedy there was a dark underscore that ran through the picture and the soundtrack reflects this.I already owned the 2007 release of CAR WASH OST (Original Soundtrack) on CD (ASIN B000002P36) but when I saw that Japan had a limited 2022 release of it, I bought it thinking that it was like the SHM-CD limited edition releases of Donna Summer's Casablanca output (not the "Disco Fever" editions that Japan put out a few years back). Those SHM-CD releases were expensive and imported but they were a revelation because they were lovingly remastered and transferred onto SHM-CD (Super High Material CD), giving the audio wings to soar, and each album cover was replicated (even the gatefold from "Live and More" was recreated in miniture album form. The only things that they didn't do was include mini posters that would have been replicas of the original full size posters like in "On The Radio" but that's about the only thing they didn't do. But this was not that. The CAR WASH Japan reissue is basically like the USA release on CD, which was remastered so I can't really tell the difference between the two. There's nothing "extra" on the Japan reissue and you won't get the liner notes and pictures from the movie that was on the US release. There is liner notes in Japanese, but they don't include photos. There's an Obi sleeve on the outside of the jewel case with Japanese writing and the monicker "Throwback Soul," which was probably a campaign putting old school soul records onto CD like the "Disco Fever" campaign.Anyway, the CAR WASH soundtrack is worth having on CD. If you already have the 2007 USA release you don't need this imported one from Japan.
